Posted: 07 Aug 2019 04:17 PM PDT

Halle Bailey credits Beyonce as an essential part of her bustling career.

The actress, who is also one-half of singing duo Chloe X Halle, is beginning to see her star shine even brighter. The Grown-ish star is gearing up for her role as Ariel in Disney's live-action remake of The Little Mermaid and is also working on music with her sister, Chloe.

The multihyphenated star spoke to E! News while attending Variety's Power of Young Hollywood event. Halle said during the interview that her mentor, Beyonce, allows both she and her sister to chase their dreams and be their authentic selves.

"One thing that we love about Beyoncé is that she always gives us the space to grow on our own and to accomplish things on our own and fly with our own wings," Halle said. "We love her inside and out."

Halle also said that since it was announced in July that she will be playing the lead role in the Disney classic, she feels "really grateful" and "really blessed" to get started on her first feature film. She also said that she will begin filming for The Little Mermaid in January 2020.

Once news spread that the "Happy Without Me" singer was playing Ariel, Halle was subjected a plethora of opinions online. While many of the comments were positive, she faced multiple criticisms because she doesn't have the same features as the 1989 Disney cartoon. The actress then received support from multiple celebrities like Zendaya, Keke Palmer, Halle Berry and Mariah Carey.

Entertainment Tonight reported that Jodi Benson, who played the voice of Ariel in the Disney cartoon version, also spoke in favor of Halle playing the role. Benson said that the most important part of the role is to be able to tell a story that will resonate with the audience.

"We need to be storytellers," she said. "And no matter what we look like on the outside, no matter our race, our nation, the color of our skin, our dialect, whether I'm tall or thin, whether I'm overweight or underweight, or my hair is whatever color, we really need to tell the story."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Beyonce found Chloe x Halle on their YouTube channel back in 2013. The duo was singing a cover of the Grammy winner's song "Pretty Hurts" and Beyonce soon signed the two to Parkwood Entertainment. Since then, the sisters have opened for Beyonce's European leg of her 2016 Formation World Tour. The duo also made appearances on Beyonce's Lemonade visual album.

The Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery has acquired a portrait of Beyoncé by photographer Tyler Mitchell, which the young artist shot for Vogue's 2018 September issue cover spread. Mitchell was the first black photographer to shoot a cover for the storied fashion publication.

The Smithsonian's selection is a glimmering, golden photo of the pop singer, capturing her in an ornate headdress and metallic Valentino dress, leaning against a Grecian column. Leslie Ureña, the museum's associate curator of photographs, said in a statement, "This particular work brought us closer to Beyoncé's words, appearing within the magazine's pages, and showing us more of the historic shoot."

This is the second image of Beyoncé the museum has acquired, and the first by Mitchell. The museum has not announced when the photograph will go on public view, and confirmed that it will not immediately be on permanent display.

Beyoncé and her sister, fellow singer and artist Solange, have been making headway into  art institutions in the past year. Earlier this summer, Solange teamed up with Brooklyn Museum LACMA, MCA Chicago, MFA Houston, the V&A in London, and other museums to to debut an extended version of her film When I Get Home. Last year, Beyoncé and Jay-Z released the video for their song "Apeshit", which was filmed in the Louvre and was chock-full of art history.

For Halle Bailey, Beyoncé plays an essential part of her world.

As the Grown-ish star prepares to head under the sea for Disney's live-action The Little Mermaid, she's taking a note from her superstar mentor's book: Be your own self.

"One thing that we love about Beyoncé is that she always gives us the space to grow on our own and to accomplish things on our own and fly with our own wings," the actress told E! News during an interview with her sister Chloe Bailey at the Variety's Power of Young Hollywood event. "We love her inside and out."

Since news of her casting was announced last month, Halle has been pinching herself.

"I am just feeling really grateful, feeling really blessed," the 19-year-old raved. "Praying. Getting myself together just in time for rehearsing and filming that all starts in January. Very excited, just enjoying myself."

As for who will kiss this girl, the options for Prince Eric seem to be limitless.

"Anyone I think could do the role," she mused. "There's a lot of handsome guys out there, a lot of beautiful hearts out there."

On the short list: Harry Styles. As E! previously reported, there's industry chatter that the former boy bander is in talks to take on the iconic role.

If he were to nab the part, he would join Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina, who are reportedly playing Flounder and Scuttle. Melissa McCarthy is rumored to be playing villainous octopus Ursula.

Whatever the case may be, we cannot wait for this underwater adventure to begin. After all, darling it's better down where it's wetter.
