Last but certainly not least (actually there is more to this collection then what I purchased). The shining star "Soft Moonlight" beauty powder. This I knew I had to have, no matter what. I had to have this sooooo bad that I purchased two of them! I wanted one for my handbag and one just to have. If you're a makeup collector like me you'll understand this crazy reasoning on why I had to have two.
This beauty powder weighing in at a whopping 22 grams of product not only had more then the average 10 gram beauty powder but had a price tag to match. This beauty powder retailed for a hefty and I mean hefty price tag of $70.00. An average beauty powder retails for around $26.00. This may have been double the product (standard size averaging 10 grams) but it was more then double the price. I wish with all the detail put into this, it would have had a snazzy powder puff to match.
What does it do? Well, I guess it makes me look beautiful so thats surly worth it! LOL just kidding. This beauty powder is as MAC Cosmetic describes it to be an "ultra fine shimmering "veil" to the skin. Can be applied as a highlight, soft blush or overall finish." I'm not sure who was hired to describe this, but soft blush this is not. This has no real color other then light beige, and last I checked that is not a color one would blush when hotness walks by LOL. I can see an ultra sheer, slightly visible, highlight maybe. I feel that this could possibly be used as a highlight on deeper skin tones. I am afraid it would give off a pale chalk like finish since this is so light in color. On lighter skin tones I feel it's really pushing it, if it's to be used as a highlight. As an overall finishing powder, ding, ding, ding! This is surly that! This has a slight pearl essence glow to it, and I mean slight. This adds a beautiful glow to the skin without any shimmer or hint of metallic in it. For deeper skin tones this is light in color. I'm not sure how well this would work as an overall finishing powder. It may come off chalky (as in five or more shades too light foundation powder spread all over the face) just saying. I do like this for afternoon touch ups and this does look so elegant when using. I just have to make sure I have a makeup brush or sponge to apply with in my makeup bag since this did not come with one.
Was it worth it? Most defiantly yes! This again is 20 grams of product that can (at least for me and my skin tone) be used on a daily basis. Adding that finishing touch of radiance to my skin. I know that the money spent will not be wasted on an item that I'll have in my collection and would never be used. This may have had a hefty price tag but I felt along with the packaging and amount of product I am ok with it, but just ok. This could have been maybe $55.00 but thats just my opinion. I truly like this beauty powder and was glad that MAC Cosmetics did not add another highlighter but something that the majority could use on a daily basis in this collection.
To better help show the difference in size I compared this compact to MAC Cosmetics limited edition "Matte Bronze" bronzing powder for the "Wash and Dry" collection. Click here if you'd like to read my trendy thoughts on this collection.
My trendy thoughts on the collection as an entirety, goes a little something like this. This entire collection price tag had me questioning how important is Guo Pei to make this collection so expensive over any other and why this collection at times doubled in price on almost all items. Everything that I purchased in this collection came to a grand total of $493.00. That is outrageous (and I'm the one who purchased it). Now if I were to subtract the extra beauty powder the total would have been $417.40 for only half the collection! I did not purchase the two makeup brushes, 213 Fluff Brush retails for $32.00 and the 129 Powder/Blush Brush retails for $46.00. I simply have too many makeup brushes and felt that I did not need them. The three Fluidline gel liners in "Blue Fountain" "Darkness Of Calm" and "Palm Tree" each retails for $17.5o. I am not a huge fan of gel liners and would have never used them so that would have been a complete waste of $52.50. The last three items I decided to skip out on were the Cremesheen Glasses in "Bright Pink Bouquet" "Pale Moon" and "Love of Roses" each retails for $28.00. I don't usually wear lip glosses of any kind again would have been a waste of $84.00 that I could have spent on something I would have used. So without tax all sixteen items in this collection totaled $594.50 with an estimates sales tax totaled $642.06
Side note: MAC Cosmetics online store has a maximum purchase policy of no more then $500.00 per transaction. So this collection could not be purchased as an entirety but would have had to be broken up into two transactions.
In the end was it worth it? I don't know. I surly purchased these items and I am happy with them, but I'm still questioning why so much? Would I do it again? With me who knows. I can tell you that I did purchase this strictly due to it's packaging. It reminded me of my grandmother and the way makeup used to be packaged in the 70s.
